Shane Filan EXCLUSIVE: I'm Top Of The Pops

Posted on 22 September 2008
Westlife star Shane Filan has left five-star hotels and VIP nightclubs for dirty nappies and midnight feeds but the singer couldn't be happier.

The doting dad is at home with his healthy newborn son Patrick watching the baby's first Ryder Cup.

And speaking from his home Shane beamed: "It really is amazing. I feel so lucky at the moment, Patrick is a beautiful baby boy. We've always wanted a girl and a boy and, to be honest, I'll do whatever it takes for the little man. I've just changed a nappy before talking to you and I'll change as many as it takes. He is a great baby though and is sleeping really well. But Nicole was like that too so we feel like the luckiest parents in the world and I am such a proud dad."

Shane (29) married his childhood sweetheart Gillian Walsh on December 28, 2003 at Ballintubber Abbey. Three years ago Gillian (29) gave birth to the couple's first child, a daughter, Nicole Rose, at Sligo General Hospital.

Born
Patrick was born last Monday weighing 6lbs 8zs at Sligo General after three and half hours of labour, Shane said. "The labour was quite quick which was great for Gillian. It is an experience for me to be a part of it and for Gill." he said. "When Nicole was born there was a C-section and this time Gillian was anxious to experience the birth. We have always dreamed of having a boy and a girl and now we have the set. The next baby can be a bit of a lucky dip but for now we have the perfect family. It is great to have another man in the house. We have two dogs and they are both female so that made four women at home. Now myself and Patrick can even up the numbers a bit."

Shane likes to play golf in his spare time but likes horses more. He and his family own more than 70 horses and used to compete at horse tournaments between tours. Westlife are currently on a year break after 10 years on the road -a break that couldn't have come at a better time for the singer.

Shane said: "It's great to be able to spend time at home with my new baby and not having to pack a bag and rush off to catch a flight. We have had a great 10 years with the band and in a way that has afforded me time off with my baby. So I have about 10 months to do the stay-at-home daddy role and take care of my boy and girls."

Shane is a homebird who loves nothing more than spending time at his country pile. And he took time to respect another Irish tradition - wetting the baby's head. Shane laughed: "I did wet the baby's head with Gillian's dad. There is a very famous pub at home called Shoot the Crows and it has the best pint of Guinness in Ireland. So we went there for a few to celebrate and it was great. I hadn't had a drink in about a month but it was an occassion. In fact, I'm becoming quite the Irish father and have moved away from the spirits and have started drinking pints of Guinness."

Family
Well wishes and cards have been flooding in for the happy family. Nicky and Kian are away on holidays at the moment but Mark has called in to see the latest addition to the Westlife family, while the band's website has been inundated with posts and messages from the hordes of Westlife fans. When he's not being the world's greatest dad, Shane still has one eye on his career. Westlife have had 14 UK number ones and 6 no1 albums in UK and sold 40 million records. And when the time is right he hopes the fab four can come back to the top with a bang and their 15th No1.

He said "The other great thing is that I have a whole new decade to look forward to with Westlife. We are going to go back into the studio in 10 months' time to record an album of completely new songs. We want to start off this new era with the best song ever produced and that will take a lot of work. So it means I'm enjoying this incredible family time all the more."

We are Filan so thrilled

Posted on 18 September 2008
Westlife dad Shane Filan was flying without wings yesterday as he brought his wife and newborn son Patrick home from the hospital.

The delighted father said "I’m delighted to have a son "

The pop star welcomed his new family addition back home just one day after he was born.

The little boy Patrick Michael was protectively carried by pretty mum Gillian, as he made his first venture outside.

The little tot weighed in at 6lbs 8 oz on Monday at Sligo General Hospital, Shane (29) said fatherhood the second time was as exciting as when Nicole was born.

He said Patrick's birth like Nicole’s was a bigger thrill than all the 14 number hits he has had.

He gushed "I’m absolutely over the moon, and its incredible to have two children."

Proud dad Shane carried his son into their luxury home wrapped in a blue blanket - well out of prying eyes.

Happy

A Westlife spokesperson said that little Patrick was already settling into the Sligo Mansion yesterday afternoon.

He said "Gillian and the baby are at home and safe and settled."

"Shane was just so happy when I was talking to him, he was over the moon."

They left hospital early in the afternoon. The baby came home quickly and they got home quickly.

Shane is already father to 3-year old daughter Nicole Rose, who was one of the first people to meet her little brother.

The new addition to the family has been proudly named after Gillian's dad.

An overjoyed father said it seems the perfect timing for baby number two.

He said "We are going to be from Westlife for a year, from the summer so it seems the perfect time to add to our family."

"We didn’t want to leave it to long before we gave Nicole a brother and sister, so it's perfect timing."

"Gillian is an amazing woman and I feel very proud to be having another child with her."

"I will be able to give Gillian all the help she needs."

"All our friends and family are thrilled for us."

"Now we are just looking forward to whatever the future brings for us".

Little Patrick Michael is the fourth Westlife baby following his big sister Nicole, and Nicky Byrnes twins Rocco and Jay.

Shane and Gillian (29) also got married in December 2003.

They have installed a luxury nursery in their mansion for Patrick, in their house in Sligo.
